RhlA Gene
The enzymes responsible for producing mono-rhamnolipids (biosurfactants) are called RhlA and RhlB which are encoded by the genes rhlA and rhlB respectively. The protein encoded by these two make up the subunits of rhamnosyltransferase I. The mono- rhamnolipids consist of a hydrophilic rhamnose head and a 3-(hydroxyalkanoyloxy) alkanoic acid (HAA) fatty acid tail. The rhlA gene coding for the enzyme RhlA creates the fatty acid tail and has been lifted and improved by iGEM10 tokyo-NoKoGen and iGEM14 Nankai from Pseudomona aeruginosa. The biobrick (Ba_K1688002) is an assembly of RBS with (BBa_K1331001).
