Mf-lon Protease
Endogenous Lon protease (mf-Lon) is isolated from Gram-positive M. florum. It constructs a degradation system that does not rely on host degradation systems and can function in a wide range of bacteria[1]. The mf-Lon-regulated system updates the knowledge about types of regulation which not only contains genomic and transcriptional regulation, but proteomic regulation should be included as well. M.florum ssrA tag (mf-ssrA) is degraded by its endogenous Lon protease (mf-Lon) but not by E.coli Lon or ClpXP, and mf-Lon does not recognize or degrade ec-ssrA (E.coli ssrA tag) providing protease and cognate degradation tag with orthogonal functionality in E. coli[2].
