T2R4
TAS2R46 belongs to the large TAS2R receptor family. TAS2Rs are expressed on the surface of taste receptor cells and mediate the perception of bitterness through a G protein-coupled second messenger pathway. After being stimulated by bitter substances, the bitter receptors activate -gustducin and effector enzyme PDE, and reduce the concentration of intracellular second messenger called ring nucleoside acid(cNMP). After that, calcium channels in the cell membrane were opened to make extracellular calcium ions flow in, and the concentration of intracellular calcium ions increased. Finally, the membrane depolarizes, releasing neurotransmitters. In our experiments, we used this gene to express bitter taste receptors in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
