Applications of BBa_K227012

The pucBA coding region produces the Light Harvesting II (LHII) antennae complexes of Rhodobacter sphaeroides. Controlling the size of these antenna (WashU iGEM 2009 [http://2009.igem.org/Team:Wash_U]) is one method of increasing the light harvesting efficiency of R. sphaeroides. This regulation is achieved by de-coupling pucBA from its natural promotor (puc), and instead placing it under control of a non-native system, namely OmpR/ompC. OmpR activation will be further controlled by the combination of this part with Cph8 (BBa_I15010), thus controlling LHII production with light intensity.

A search of R. sphaeroides revealed no EnvZ kinase homologues.[http://2009.igem.org/Team:Wash_U] When coupled with an introduced system containing an EnvZ kinase, this part would act as an appropriate reporter.
