SpeA (arginine decarboxylase)
This specific part codes for SpeA gene from E.coli. It expresses the enzyme arginine decarboxylase. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of L-arginine into agmatine and carbon dioxide, the first step in the metabolic pathway that converts arginine into putrescine. The 2024 iGEM designed this sequence for use in a base producing circuit. This part when co-expressed with SpeB (BBa_K0597010) will construct this pathway and produce putrescine from arginine.
