This enzyme belongs to the non-haem di-iron family of monooxygenases and is an integral cytoplasmic membrane protein. It is the catalytic component of the Gordonia sp. TF6 alkane hydroxylase system and as such oxidizes C5-C13 alkanes and C5-C8 cycloalkanes to their corresponding primary alcohols by transferring one oxygen atom from molecular oxygen to the alkane.
