Physiological functions of GAL4
The nuclear protein GAL4 is a positive regulator of gene expression for the galactose-induced genes such as GAL1, GAL2, GAL7, GAL10, and MEL1. These genes encode enzymes which convert galactose to glucose.
Possible applications of GAL4 DBD
Gene expression activation by the GAL4-UAS system: The GAL4/UAS system is a biochemical method used to study gene expression and function in organisms such as the fruit fly. The system has two parts: the GAL4 gene, encoding the yeast transcription activator protein Gal4, and the UAS (Upstream Activation Sequence), a short section of the promoter region, to which Gal4 specifically binds to activate gene transcription.
