Feruloyl-CoA Synthetase from Pseudomonas putida, FCS-Ppu, catalyses the fourth step in our vanillin biosynthesis pathway. It converts ferulic acid into feruoyl-CoA, avtivating it through CoA-thioesterification.

We tested two alternate FCS enzymes for this pathway step; this enzyme from Pseudomonas, and also a homolog from Streptomyces (BBa_K5443012).

This part builds on the work of earlier iGEM teams, who contributed FCS Parts as follows: BBa_K1129002

Figure 1. FCS-Ppu-catalysed conversion of ferulic acid to feruoyl-CoA.
This reaction represents the fourth step in our vanillin synthesis pathway. The enzyme FCS-Ppu converts ferulic acid into feruoyl-CoA.
