YtnP degrades AHLs, a class of signaling molecules that induce quorum sensing. Quorum sensing triggers the expression of virulence factors in pathogens, including Aeromonas hydrophila, an aquatic bacterium that threatens aquaculture (Coquant et al., 2020; Hlordzi et al., 2020). High expression of YtnP in the probiotic B. subtilis reduces the virulence of A. hydrophila through quorum quenching and saves aquatic animals.

Non, signal-like sequence

The Non sequence is an artificially designed signal-like sequence that directs newly synthesized proteins to the cell membrane via a non-classical secretion pathway (Jeiranikhameneh et al., 2017).

Usage and Biology

The Non signal-like sequence always combined with OmpA a part of the outer membrane protein A (OmpA) (BBa_K5205002) to form the Non-OmpA system (BBa_K5205003). This system efficiently displays fusion proteins on the cell surface in E. coli (Jeiranikhameneh et al., 2017).
