nidA forms together with nidB, phtAc and phtAd pyrene dioxygenase enzyme complex. This complex catalyzes the oxydation of pyrene to Cis-4,5-Dihydro-4,5-dihydroxypyrene. This is the first step in biodegradation of pyrene.
