The 7-amino acid sequence is commonly used as it is best recognised by this TEV protease, which belongs to the family of chymotrypsin-like proteases. This part is not compatible with BioBrick RFC10 assembly but is compatible with the iGEM Type IIS Part standard which is also accepted by iGEM.

This part is used as a removable His tag for protein purification. This sequence is for use in JUMP assembly and may be incompatible with non-Type IIS assembly techniques, as the fusion site regenerates some nucleotides.
