MaElo16

MaElo16 encodes C16/18 elongase from Misgurnus anguillicaudatus which functions in the desaturase and elongase pathway and could convert C16:0 to C18:0.

Description

The wild-type Y. lipolytica Po1f can produce C18:0 under the catalysis of C16/18 elongase. MaElo16 encodes C16/18 elongase of 266 amino acids from Misgurnus anguillicaudatus. Heterologous expression of MaElo16 could catalyze C16:0 to C18:0 in Y. lipolytica.

Some studies have used C16/18 elongase from this source to produce high yields of omega-3 fatty acids.
