nuclear localization signal(NLS)

This nuclear localization sequence(NLS) derived from SV40 directs the protein into the nucleus.

Usage and Biology

A nuclear localization signal (NLS) is a short stretch of amino acids that mediates the transport of nuclear proteins to the nucleus. The NLS motif plays a key role in this mechanism; (i) normally, deletion of NLS disrupts nuclear import; (ii) if fused to NLS, normally non-nuclear proteins are imported into the nucleus.(Cokol et al., 2000)

Sequecing

The plasmid was sequenced correct.

Functional characterization

We can connect NLS to EGFP and observe the location of fluorescent proteins to verify the function of NLS.
