PaDes17

PaDes17 encodes ∆-17 desaturase from Pythium aphanidermatum which functions in the Δ-9 elongase/desaturase pathway and could convert C20:4 to C20:5.

Description

The PaDes17 gene encodes ∆-17 desaturase of 359 amino acids from Pythium aphanidermatum that catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid (ARA; C20:4 n-6) to Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; C20:5 n-3).

Literature

The results showed that the ∆-17 desaturase gene was expressed in the arachidonic acid producing strain of Y. lipolytica.. It converts -6 arachidonic acid to -3 eicosapentaic acid with substrate conversion efficiencies of 54 to 65%.
