After that, calcium channels in the cell membrane were opened to make extracellular calcium ions flow in, and the concentration of intracellular calcium ions increased. Finally, the membrane depolarizes, releasing neurotransmitters.In our experiments, we used this gene to express bitter taste receptors in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
