traT

This part codes for the gene traT. The genes traS and traT help in surface exclusion and are carried naturally by the E. coli Fertiity factor (F factor). TraT is an outer membrane protein that prevents reception of conjugal tubes. The simultaneous overexpression of both these genes in E. coli has been shown to reduce DNA transfer by 33,000 times. Thus, they help reduce conjugation significantly.
