pTac promoter
The Ptac promoter sequence here is preceeded by a coding region for lacI; the function of this is to repress the promoter in it's natural state within a system. The promoter will then have to be induced, for example, by IPTG for the promoter to function in the 'ON' state.
We use this pTac promoter in our kill-switch to induce the production of the toxin (miniColicin E2 or ccdB toxin) with IPTG.
