Surface (S)-Layer Protein Constitutive Promoter for Lactobacillus sp.
P-slp is a constitutive promoter which can be used in Lactobacillus reuteri 10023C, and may have uses in other Lactobacillus species.
This part encodes the promoter of the surface level protein gene in lactic acid bacteria.
The (S)-layer protein (slp) promoter is derived from Lactobacillus acidophilus, and is responsible for the high level of transcription of stable mRNAs coding the S-protein monomers (Boot & Pouwels, 1996; Boot et al., 1996). It was characterised in six strains of Lactobacillus reuteri and Lactococcus lactis spp. cremoris MG1363 by Lizier et al, 2010. The promoter shows good activity in L. lactis spp. cremoris MG1363, but has very little activity in L. reuteri.
