Penetratin, cell-penetrating peptide
Penetratin is a 16 residue cell-penetrating peptide, RQIKIWFQNRRMKWKK, derived from the homeodomain of the Drosophila Antennapedia transcription factor. Cell-penetrating peptides are small peptides that improve intracellular delivery of various molecules in cells and tissues in vivo and in vitro and represent an important tool to deliver therapeutics.
The translocation of penetratin is influenced by hydrophobic and electrostatic properties. It was shown that the increase of hydrophobicity of the protein of interest and penetratin induces a transient destabilization of the plasma membrane and this is crucial for the protein/peptide translocation.
To use this part, add the sequence to the N-terminal sequence of your protein of interest.
