Promoter that can be regulated by NagC which is a repressor for the nag-operon which is needed for GlcNAc6P catabolism.
Usage and Biology
Commensal bacteria in the gut metabolize the mucus within the intestines, which increases the level of GlcNAc within the lumen. GlcNAc is taken up by the bacteria through their PTS system and metabolized into GlcNAc-6-P, which binds the repressor protein nagC. If nagC is bound to GlcNAc-6-P it loses ist abilities to bind DNA, and therefore ist respective regulation activity.
