It is an outer membrane cytochrome which plays a critical role in iron reduction through a direct mechanism involving electron transport or in conjunction with MtrC. OmcA is directly involved in the reduction of Fe(III) and Mn (III/Iv) oxides via either direct contact with these metal oxides or other components of the electron transport network.
