It encodes FAD-dependent D-lactate dehydrogenase and L-lactate dehydrogenase complex protein.

Usage and biology

dld can improve D-lactate’s transformation into pyruvate and lldEFG can improve L-lactate’s transformation into pyruvate. With the overexpression of these two genes, Shewanella could utilize lactate more efficiently, which brings more electricity to be produced.
