Design Notes

Insulin is normally made out of two chains. However, this can be hazardous considering the possibility of the protein folding going wrong. Hence, we used sequence of Winsulin, a single chain insulin developed by previous iGEM team. Secondly, the penetratin, a type of cell penetrating peptide, assists the delivery of insulin to blood vessels. Lastly, the FLAG tag allows the users to detect the insulin secretion easily using techniques such as western blotting.

Source

The sequence is derived from Human Insulin.
