This device is intended to be used as a controllable, cost-effective, and mosquito-specific insecticide. Our product is intended for use as an insecticide for targeting malaria-carrying mosquitoes and could mitigate the risks of using other aerial mosquito insecticides. The insecticide is controllable since the E. coli must be induced using rhamnose before producing the mosquito toxin. We note that we cannot guarantee the viability of E. coli across all natural environments, based on fluctuations in humidity and suitable substrate availability. Instead, in areas where E. coli are found to be less suited to the natural environment, our device could be used to synthesize Cry11Aa in an industrial setting, from which resulting protein could be delivered as an insecticide on its own.
