Continuous engineering of the Green Fluorescent Protein from Aequorea victoria has led to several variants with improved features. Among the best is mEmerald for its photostability and resistance to bleaching. The protein contains the S65T and F64L mutations of eGFP and four others to improve maturation and folding at 37°C and increase the intrinsic brightness (20% more than eGFP).

mEmerald
