Secrecon

Secreted proteins represent about 10% of all proteins in the genome, and have particular value in medical and industrial applications. The vast majority of secreted proteins are secreted via the classic secretory pathway and are directed by secretory signal peptide sequences. The signal peptide is at the N-terminus of the secreted protein and includes the start methionine, a positively charged n-region, a central characteristic hydrophobic region, and a c-region ending with a cleavage site.

Secrecon is an artificial secretory signal sequence designed using the hidden Markov model. This signal peptide directs strong protein secretion and expression and was found to be the most powerful and consistent human secretion signal sequence.
