Usage and Biology
N-acetylglutamate synthetase (NAGS) catalyzes the first step of the linear biosynthetic pathway of L-arginine as follows:
acetyl-coA + L-glutamate = coA + N-acetyl-L-glutamate
This sequence is the open reading frame of the feedback resistant mutant PT2M217 NAGS which is not responsive to the inhibition by L-arginine present in the endogenous system.
