The Has promoter is used for gene expression control, where expression of genes downstream to the Has promoter is triggered by the Has system. The Has system originates from the ''Serratia marcescens'' where it functions as a heme acquisition system. The core signalling molecules of the system are the hemophore HasA, receptor HasR, anti-sigma factor HasS and extra cytoplasmic function sigma factor HasI. [https://parts.igem.org/Part:BBa_K1897002 HasA] detects and binds to heme and the holo-HasA can bind to [https://parts.igem.org/Part:BBa_K1897003 HasR] on the cell surface. This induces a conformational change and activation of [https://parts.igem.org/Part:BBa_K1897005 HasS]. HasS then releases the sigma factor [https://parts.igem.org/Part:BBa_K1897008 HasI] and this will allow for the expression of genes under the control of the Has promoter.

Characterisation of this part is done in tandem with the full has operon ([https://parts.igem.org/Part:BBa_K1897007 BBa_K1897007])
