MtrB Outer Membrane Structural Protein
Usage and Biology
MtrB, an outer membrane protein from Shewanella oneidensis MR-1, is required for proper incorporation of cytochromes into the outer membrane. This protein is important in stablizing OcmA and OcmB. two outer membrane protein that plays an essential role in netal reduction pathway in S.oneidensis and is also important in genetraing current in microbialfuel cell. We reintroduce this gene into a mtrB gene knockout mutant Shewanella JG700 to create a sensor with electric current as reporter. With a suitable inducible promoter, mtrB will be activated whenever the promoter is induced.
