This part is the ATF sequence [https://parts.igem.org/wiki/index.php/Part:BBa_J45006 BBa_45J006] with a single point mutation at base pair 1148 (T -> C).  Alcohol acetyltransferase I (ATFI) encodes the enzyme alcohol acetyltransferase I (AATase I), which produces acetate esters from acetyl CoA and alcohols. It was obtained from ''S. cerevisiae''. Note that this is ''not'' aspartate amino transferase (also called "AATase"), and that "ATF1" refers to "Activating Transcription Factor 1" in humans (homologous to Atf1 in mouse).

alcohol acetyltransferase I; converts isoamyl alcohol to isoamyl acetate (banana odor)

This part is the ATF sequence BBa_45J006 with a single point mutation at base pair 1148 (T -> C). Alcohol acetyltransferase I (ATFI) encodes the enzyme alcohol acetyltransferase I (AATase I), which produces acetate esters from acetyl CoA and alcohols. It was obtained from S. cerevisiae. Note that this is not aspartate amino transferase (also called "AATase"), and that "ATF1" also refers to "Activating Transcription Factor 1" in humans (an entirely different protein that is homologous to "Atf1" in mouse).

Usage and Biology

We (MIT iGEM 2006) are currently experimenting with this part to determine its functional charateristics. It is currently in the pSB1A3-1 BioBrick backbone.
