pBAD:CspA
K538303

This part was submitted by team [http://2011.igem.org/Team:Amsterdam Amsterdam 2011] as part of their project: icE. coli. Its purpose is to express the CspA protein from Polaribacter irgensii (BBa_K538003) under control of the strong arabinose-induced promoter team [http://2009.igem.org/Team:British_Columbia British Columbia 2009] derived from pBAD (BBa_K206000). E. coli expressing this protein experience a drastic increase in their ability to survive freezing and thawing. This Brick's designers intend to use it to culture 'normal' E. coli faster at temperatures below its optimum (37°C), possibly even facilitating growth below the minimal growth temperature of 7°C.

Refer to the main page of the coding region (CspA: BBa_K538003) for more information on how CspA facilitates cold resistance in E. coli.
