The theophylline riboswitch 12.1 is a synthetic riboswitch selected by Lynch & Gallivan (2009, NAR 37, 184-192). The riboswitch contains an aptamer domain that binds the ligand, a ribosome binding site, and a start codon. Control is at the translational level. Theophylline does not appear to significantly influence transcription.
