We transformed Saccharomyces cerevisiae with this part digested by XhoI restriction enzyme (BBa_K5143024). BBa_K5143024 part was designed to incorporate S. cerevisiae genome by cross recombination at Ura locus.
Then, we used this new strain of yeast in coculture with Komagataeibacter rhaeticus in order to functionalize cellulose. With this construct BBa_K5143024 we wanted to add yellow coloration and sticky characteristics to the cellulose produced by K. rhaeticus .
