BluB

Gene for BluB enzyme, catalyzes the reaction of FMNH2 to DMB used in the AdoCbl synthesis pathway in E. coli. Ultimately leads to AdoCbl (B12) synthesis. Also used in BBa_K4604015, BBa_K4604016, BBa_K4604021, BBa_K4604022 and BBa_K4604023. A more detailed characterization is uploaded on these respective registry pages.

Figure 1: Vitamin B12 production from precursors in E. coli. The BluB transforms the reduced form of flavin mononucleotide (FMNH2) to form 5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole (DMB) which then joins exogenously-provided cobinamide to create vitamin B12.
