sleB, Bacillus subtilis germination gene with RBS
sleB encodes for a spore cortex-lytic enzyme. This enzyme responds germination triggered by L-alanine which is the most universal germinant for spores. It has been shown that B. subtilis mutants with inactivated sleB gene were not able to germinate (1).
Hence by regulating this gene in sleB mutant B. subtilis cells, germination rate can be contolled.
