Our project requires for the transcription factor to be dependent on the presence of VOCs. CCCTC-binding factor, otherwise known as (CTCF), is a transcription factor. 1. Function

Our project requires for the transcription factor to be dependent on the presence of VOCs. When researching the design of trimethylbenzene, the VOC that this transcription factor binds to, we needed to make sure that, hypothetically, everything would work based on our model. After checking through extensive research that our design would fit with this transcription factor, we chose it.

2. Design Consideration

CCCTC-binding factor, otherwise known as (CTCF), is a transcription factor. It has numerous functions in synthetic biology, including but not limited to functioning as a transcriptional activator or an insulator protein. CTCF transcription factors can also call for other transcription factors while bound to these important entities known as “chromatin domain boundaries.”
