Usage and Biology
This part encodes for a bacteriostatic growth-inhibitory protein, Gp2 under an inducible promoter pCpcG2. The promoter is activated by the phosphorylated form of CcaR (a response regulator) and deactivated by dephosphorylated CcaR. the phosphorylation/dephosphorylation of CcaR depends on the light that is shone and perceived by the trans-membrane CcaS protein.
Upon light stimulation, the production of Gp2 is triggered leading to a bacteriostatic effect. On withdrawal of the light stimuli, the production of Gp2 is hindered and owing to its low half-life, the Gp2 already present in the cells is also degraded.
This part is used in association with the CcaS-CcaR system as a light-induced growth regulation system.
