RBS + UTR of beta lactamase
This part consists of the RBS with the UTR that targets the beta lactamase mRNA and represses its expression by forming a double stranded mRNA.
Usage and Biology
The antisense region is flanked by an RBS sequence on the 5' end and a complementary RBS sequence on the 3' end. The RBS forms a duplex by binding to its complementary RBS sequence in the absence of antibiotic resistance gene & thus, inactivates the expression of the Cro gene. When the antibiotic resistant gene is present, the RBS binds to the complement RBS in the mRNA of the resistant bacterium & enables the expression of the Cro gene.
