Coding sequence encoding hydroxymethylbilane synthase from E. coli K12.
This enzyme is part of Team UAlberta's engineered biosynthetic pathway to produce protoporphyrin IX (PPIX). Expression of this gene in pBAD for protein purification provided functional hydroxymethylbilane that was used for the in vitro production of PPIX from 5-aminolevulinic acid.
