RNF8 3-UTR
This is the 3’prime untranslated region of RNF8 gene. It is the section of mRNA that immediately follows the translation termination codon and contains regulatory regions that post-transcriptionally influence gene expression. 1 .
Usage and Biology
RNF8 gene is a human gene which encodes an enzyme called E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase RNF8. 2
RNF8 plays an important role in the immune system and in the DNA repair process. 3
The RNF8 protein contains a RING finger motif and an FHA domain. It could interact with several class II ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes and participate in the ubiquitination reaction of certain nuclear proteins. 4
There are 3 DNA repair pathways by which RNF8 promotes the repairing of DNA damage: homologous recombinational repair (HRR), non-homologous end joining (NHEJ), and nucleotide excision repair (NER). 4-6
The double-strand break in DNA could be repaired by either HRR and NHEJ. While the pyrimidine dimers, which are induced by UV, could be repaired by NER. 5-7
The depletion of RNF8 protein causes cell growth inhibition and cell cycle arrest. 8
