A plasmid is a small piece of "accessory DNA" which are carried around by cell strain hosts.
Plasmids are often acquired by cells can bestow the benefit of survival traits such as antibiotic resistance. The most common resistances are ampicillin ("Amp"), kanomycin ("Kan"), tetracycline ("Tet") and chloramphenicol ("Chlor").
