Introduction

The nikC is a subunit of the nik operon BBa_K2652006.

Usage and Biology

NikC encodes an integral inner membrane protein. It works together with nikB to facilitate the translocation of nickel ions across the inner membrane, contributing to the cell’s ability to import nickel under anaerobic conditions. In our design, nikC is constructed into our ribozyme-assisted polycistronic co-expression system BBa_K5115079(ribozyme+RBS+nikC+stem-loop), eventually making up parts BBa_K5115082(ribozyme connected nik operon), which is used for further experiments to facilitate nickel uptake in E. coli.
