Streptavidin protein binds strongly to the biotin molecule, and is widely used to bind biotinylated materials. This device was designed for polar expression of streptavidin on the outer membrane of bacterial cells. To facilitate the observation, the fusion protein of Lpp signal peptide, OmpA aa46-66, and streptavidin wild-type (BBa_J36848) was fused with GFP-coding sequence (BBa_e0040). The expression will display streptavidin-GFP fusion protein on the cell surface. It has been demonstrated work as expected in our system (see experience or visit our wiki).  This part does not pose any biological threat.
