TDC
TDC can remove the carboxyl group from 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) and convert it into serotonin (5-hydroxytryptophan, 5-HT). Tryptophan decarboxylase exists widely in animals and plants, especially in the central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. 5-HTP is a precursor substance of the neurotransmitter 5-HT, an important neurotransmitter that plays an intestinal motility role in the physiological function of the intestine and plays a vital role in alleviating chronic constipation.
Usage and Biology
In our 5-HT producing circuit, TDC and TPH together catalyze the generation of 5-HT, when sensing a decrease in butyrate concentration. Experimental results about our 5-HT producing circuit can be found in our composite part BBa K4656007.
