DegP is a type of heat shock protein in E. coli. Heat shock protein is a family of proteins whose expression is induced by SOS responses such as heat.

It is also a type of serine protease in terms of the presence of serine residues in the active center.

In particular, it recognizes and degrades peptides whose structure has been damaged by heat or misfolding.

The lac promoter, the RBS and the double terminator are added to this part, forming BBa_K4032105.
