This is the fliK Landing Pad (100%), an integral part of the USYD 2021 team's project. We aim to produce naturally transformable (NT) E. coli by inserting the NT genes of another species into it. We have chosen 23 genes from Acinetobacter baylyi and have planned to insert them into the fliK gene in the E. coli. We have devised a novel recombineering strategy that allows for homologous recombination to insert large amounts of DNA sequentially into the chromosome, and this 'landing pad' is the beginning of this process. It provides all the foundations for the 23 A. baylyi genes to be inserted into the chromosome and be expressed.
