LsrR gene

This gene codes for the LsrR protein from E. coli strain MG1655. The protein is an repressor of the pLsrA promoter that can be derepressed upon binding to phosphorylated AI-2 signal molecule.

The AI-2 signal quorum-sensing signal molecule is actively transported into the cell by the LsrABC protein, before being phosphorylated by LsrK. Subsequently, Phospho-AI-2 derepresses LsrR from the operator region of the lsr operon, as stated above. In the absence of AI-2, both the lsrACDBFG operon and LsrR itself are repressed [1].
