Usage and Biology

Biology

The heme oxygenase coding sequence (encoding the enzyme for the oxidative degradation of heme into biliverdin IX alpha) is coupled with an RBS (BBa_B0034) , resulting in the formation of a translational unit. The RBS (with a Shine Dalgarno like sequence) helps in the binding of the ribosome initiating the process of translation.

Usage

This part is used to translate the ho1 gene construct into the functional enzyme under a suitable promoter. In association with the translational unit coding for PcyA (BBa_K3165058), this sequence can act as a genetic circuit for the biosynthesis of phycocyanobilins (PCBs).
