The former picture shows the control group, of 5ul culture dripped onto an LB plate. The latter is the picture of B. subtilis transformed with lmrA on the vector pHT01 (promoter: pGrac) dripped onto the plate under the same condition. Both plates were incubated for 24 hours. There are visible differences between the two colonies. The colony in the latter picture seems to have swarming properties, indicating that lmrA may indeed be transporting extra surfactin into the surrounding.
