In order to assay if this plasmid design successfully created the ester methyl salicylate in the presence of salicylic acid we created tubes of transfected E.coli with varying concentration of salicyclic acid and ran these tubes is a GC-MS machine to see if levels of the desired product, methyl salicylate, were detectable. the tubes contained .001mM, .01mM, .1mM, 1.M, and 10mM of salicylic acid. When comparing our plasmid GC-MS readings with prior reading we had gained by testing pure salicylic acid we discovered that this plasmid design did not produce any detectable levels of methyl salicylate and conclusively was an ineffective part.
